Stopped in on a Wednesday evening at 7:30 and we got a table right away. I'm glad that there are still places that locals and tourists can enjoy without overcrowding and overpricing.
My wife and I split the Chicken Acapulco with a side of guacamole. There was plenty of food! Before the meal, the free chips were warm and crispy and the salsa has some real flavor.
The rice and refried beans are also good and the tortillas seem to be made there - not sure about that. Service was friendly and the young man was very attentive. Mostly Spanish language stations play on the four televisions. Prices are reasonable. One of our continued favorites. -

This Mexican-Salvadoran restaurant serves delicious and authentic food! I ordered a mix of the steak and chicken fajitas. They came piled on top of a bed of grilled onions and bell peppers. The plate was sizzling for several wonderful minutes. In addition to the fajitas, the meal came with rice, pico, avocado, charro beans, and fluffy flour tortillas. The components complemented each other wonderfully, and everything tasted great. Sadly there wasn't any horchata, but I guess you can't have it all.
I received good service as well. My server was friendly and kept the free chips and salsa flowing. It helped that the restaurant was pretty empty, but she checked on me often and made sure I had everything I needed.
I'm glad that this was the first Mexican food that I tried on the island. It definitely set the bar high! I'll be back to try some of their famous pupusas. -

Their food is some of the best Mexican food I have had in years. I asked the waiter about the cook and he said, "He's some Salvidorian guy!" Regardless of the cook's origins, he know how to cook Mexican! We ordered a Mixed Mexican Platter, Mini Beef Fajitas Tacos, 2 medium quesos and Fajitas for 1. There was so much food and the 6 of us ate to our fill. We went thru 5 cups of salsa and 2 baskets of chips, too. All of the food was of the highest quality. I've grown up eating Mexican food from California to Missouri and Kentucky and all over Texas...this was some of the best! Their salsa was almost as good as mine and I get rave reviews for mine. The waiter gave me an extra container of it to take on our trip with us! How sweet.
If you eat at Rivera's Mexican restaurant, you should not be disappointed. Our waiter was very attentive, keep our waters filled and the chips and salsa filled, too.
Thanks, Rivera's! We loved it! -

If this place wasn't all the way in Galveston, I'd come all the time!! The ladies here are super sweet - service is great and the folks always have a smile on their faces. Food is fantastic also. Price and portion size are good and THE QUESO IS THE BOMB.COM - got two orders. Heh.
For context, our group ordered the chicken marisco, fajita mixed platter, beef enchiladas, and two shrimp plates (forgot the official names), and all were solid. Can't go wrong here.
Docked a star because we waited way too long for the chicken mariscos to come out, and it got pretty busy so it was hard to flag someone down at times.
Either way, we go fishing every year, and we'll be sure to come back!! -

My husband and I ate here for our 19 year anniversary. We had a new server that didn't know anything about any questions we asked her. We order shrimp, chicken, steak fajitas. The steak was really chewy. But the fajitas are full of favor. The charro beans was awesome and the hot sauce was great. But I forgot to mention that they forgot the shrimp but they got it out to the table quickly. We thought the menu was lacking too.
